About
kitchen islands
If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen creating culinary delights,
you may find that an island will add a great deal to your cooking
experiences.
No matter what size your kitchen is, an island can add both space and
convenience. In many European countries, preparing the meal is much a communal
experience as is sharing the meal. You may find that once you have an
island installed, you have more offers to help with the meal from family
and friends. The added time with friends and family, during the
preparation of the meal, will add even more to your dining enjoyment.
There are several factors you should take into consideration when
preparing to build a kitchen island. If your kitchen is a very large,
open space, you can make it more comfortable and cozy by adding an
island to fill in some of the empty space. Adding an island in a large
space can also provide you with extra storage, eliminating the need to
repeatedly go from one area to another looking for thing.
If, like most people, you happen to have a smaller kitchen, you can
still add an island for both extra counter space and storage space,
which you may be lacking. You can even install a cutting board top, a
range and even a hanging rack for pots and pans or cutlery. You could
even have a sink built into the island so you can more easily clean
produce.
Not every night of the week will be a night for a formal meal in the
dining room. A kitchen island can provide a more casual place for your
family to gather and share a meal.
Many kitchen islands are equipped with wheels so that they can be moved
about the kitchen. A mobile island will give you the extra mobility that
you need if company comes over or if you need to move your appliances.
The island will attract the attention of your company, distracting their
attention from the dishes used in preparation of the meal or other parts
of the kitchen with which you may not be that satisfied.
You can use the island to create a separate space if you have a kitchen
that uses an open floor plan. The ability to divide the kitchen a bit
can be useful when it comes to entertaining as well. You can create
separate spaces for those occasions.
You can also use a kitchen island to control the flow of traffic when
entertaining. Just set up the dishes on the counter and have your guests
file around the island in a circular pattern, choosing what they would
like to eat from the “buffet.” Serving from an island can prevent the
mosh pit that often forms during holiday parties when everyone crowds in
toward the food when it is time to eat.
If you like to watch TV while you are in the kitchen preparing the meal
or doing the dishes, you could place a small TV on the island so that
you can see it from different vantage points.
