In many kitchens, the focal point is the island.

The kitchen is often the most frequented room in the house, besides the bathroom. What better way to make the kitchen a gathering place that you can all enjoy than by adding a kitchen island. An island can provide the added workspace, eating space and drop off space, where you throw your stuff down when you walk in the door.

Before you go to the store to look at the pre-manufactured kitchen islands, you may want to consider building your own island. Islands can be expensive and cannot be customized to match your kitchen décor. Instead of purchasing something from stock, try building one yourself.

By building your island, you will likely save money, and you can customize the island the way you want it. If you have the right tools and the patience, building an island can certainly be a project worth tackling.
