Different types of kitchen stoves

Kitchen stoves are available as free standing units, built in ranges or countertops. The freestanding types are completely self contained and generally have four burners on the cooking surface. You will find that there are some five burner designs that are 36 inches wide. Most stoves are 30 inches wide. The size of the oven will depend largely on the size of the lower drawer. Sometimes the lower drawer is designated as a warming drawer. Most often, though, it is used for storage.

The important thing though is that you have a kitchen stove that you feel comfortable with. It would be nice if the kitchen stove will fit and complement the interior of your home. You don’t really need something that is way expensive. As long as it does its basic function of to your pots and pans, it’s already enough. You don’t have to get the fancy ones. What’s important is that you get a kitchen stove that you’ll love using, since it’ll be a part of your house for a long time.

Kitchen stoves that are designed to slide into spaces are the standard 30 inch opening. On occasion, the cabinet design will leave one side open. When this is the case, you can purchase a side panel separately to complete the unit. A drop in range is similar to a slide in, but it does not have a bottom drawer since the over contains the broiler unit. Drop in ranges are used most often in kitchen islands. These drop in units make is possible to visit with guests or attend to the kids while still working on the meal.

You can purchase a kitchen stove with either gas burners or electric coils. The advantage of the gas burner over the electric coil is the speed with which gas burners heat up and cool down. It is easy to adjust the flame to visibly control the heat. An electric burner is controlled by the temperature settings.

When looking for a stove, conventional ovens are another option. If you choose a stovetop, the oven will need to be a separate unit. You could also choose ovens that offer a combination of microwave or convection units with the conventional oven. The conventional oven can be either gas or electric.

You will find as many choices in stoves as you will in other kitchen appliances.

Everything about kitchen sinks

Probably the most used fixture in the kitchen, perhaps even in the house, is the kitchen sink. Both the preparation of food and the clean up that follows are ongoing activities that occur several times a day, each day of the week.

You will find a variety of designs available, many more than the one faucet one sink designs of the past. In times past, everyone’s kitchen sink looked like their neighbor’s sink. Now, everyone can express their own personal tastes through their kitchen décor.

Now, there are kitchen sinks available with multiple bowls. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Some even have cutting boards and integral drainers built into them to add to the ease and convenience of the prep and cleaning process. Some sinks are equipped with soap dispensers, sprayers or designate dispensers for hot water.

Stainless steel has been a popular material for use in kitchen sinks for years. It is available in a variety of sizes and thickness. With stainless steel, the higher the gauge, the thinner the material. For durability, the best thickness is at least an 18 gauge thickness. It will resist scratching and denting better than the thinner gauge stainless steel.

If you are looking for color in you kitchen sink, you could choose a sink in enamel or cast iron. Steel sinks are also available in colors. Because steel and cast iron sinks are very heavy, they must have a countertop that can support their weight. Sinks made of quartz are very popular as well. Rimless sinks are also very popular.

Choosing a sink for your kitchen can be a real adventure because of the variety of colors and patterns that are now available.

Lighting your kitchen and island area

Where you plan to have activity, you will need to have light. If you install an island, you will need dedicated lighting. You should not count on ambient light to illuminate your workspace. You will not have upper cabinets to hide task lights as you will elsewhere in the kitchen.

As is the case with most task lighting, you want the light to come straight down on the island as well. The most common choice for such lighting is recessed lighting. Installing recessed lighting should be relatively simple if your ceilings are of standard height, but it will be more difficult if your ceilings are higher.

When the distance from the counter-top to the ceiling is greater than six feet, you will have to choose either fixtures or bulbs specifically designed to project light down rather than spread it out.

Another option for lighting your island is pendant lights, which hang down from the ceiling. Be careful with this type of light though. You could easily end up with the lights hanging at the wrong height. Incorrectly hung lights can either block your view of blind you with a high intensity bulb shining directly into your eyes. Of course table lamps will work if you have enough room.

Whatever type of light you choose, be sure to install a dimmer switch so that the light can be dimmed when you do not need maximum brightness for working.

How about kitchen cart

The addition of a center island to your kitchen does not have to be either permanent or extremely expensive, contrary to popular belief.

You can achieve the sophisticated look that is associated with a center island without having to undertake a major remodeling project or without having to take out a significant loan. You can accomplish all of this by using a portable kitchen cart or kitchen island.

In houses in times past, the kitchen table served as the center of activity for the entire kitchen. The kitchen table is where people would prepare the evening meal, socialize and dine. Today the trend for gathering in the kitchen has shifted toward the kitchen island or kitchen cart.

The kitchen carts and islands that are available today provide extra workspace, but they also offer some practical solutions to both storage and design issues. These carts and islands can be either large or small and can range in design from simple to elaborate. You can use these islands to prepare foods, serve buffet style dinners or to provide extra cupboard.

They can also provide extra counter space. Kitchen carts are available in a tremendous variety of sizes to give you the added space you may need.

Because the design options associated with portable kitchen carts and center kitchen islands are nearly endless, most kitchen carts can be incorporated into any style of kitchen. Whether your style is contemporary, country or formal, you will be able to find the kitchen cart that is just right for complimenting your specific sense of style.

Even if you are interested in creating a very specific decorating style for your kitchen, you will likely find that the styles you are looking for have been incorporated into a kitchen island or kitchen cart. Take for instance the Tuscan, Province and cottage styles; these are just a few of the styles from which you can choose when you are selecting your kitchen cart or island. Some of the styles available even feature elaborate pieces that have been adorned with intricate hand painted or hand carved designs.

These special additions will serve to make your new addition not only a very practical one, but also a very elegant one as well.

You will find kitchen carts in a wide variety of finishes that can be specifically selected to look as though they were custom made for your kitchen. You will also be able to select from a large variety of work surfaces for your kitchen cart or island. Some of the choices include wood, stainless steel, granite and butchers block.

The basic point is, no matter what look you are trying to create, or how much space you have to work with, you will be able to find the perfect kitchen cart or island to customize your space without having to hire a contactor or invest in costly cabinetry.

Another good thing about kitchen carts or islands is that they are very affordable. Prices for kitchen carts and islands start at around a few hundred dollars. As you would expect, the price goes up from that point. The cost can go as high as $1000 or more depending on the style of cart or island that you choose. For example, a higher end kitchen cart may have intricate hand carved woodwork, a significant amount of both work and storage space, a wine rack or even a granite work space.

On the other hand, a lower end cart may consist of more simple classic lines, a cabinet or two and a wooden work surface.

Before you decide to completely renovate your kitchen, you may want to take some time to consider what a portable kitchen cart or island can do for the look and effectiveness of your kitchen.
